About the service

Every school in Malta’s colleges has its own guidelines for behaviour so as to ensure a safe and secure environment that is conducive to learning for all students.  The College Prefect of Discipline within the schools collaborates with the school itself and with other professionals and external entities with the aim of providing needed services in relation to behavioural difficulties, thus promoting positive discipline based on the overarching principle of reciprocal respect.  Discipline is a process of learning by the student that requires understanding, time & patience, teaches problem solving, builds positive self-image and develops self-control and cooperation. Prefects of Discipline are called by the school to assist students in special situations and help investigate incidents of violations of disciplinary rules occurring in the school or on school property.  Prefects of Discipline also participate in programmes that promote good behaviour, informing students of their rights and corresponding responsibilities.  As professional educators we need to do our best to understand the personality, needs and family situation of each student so as to be able to provide the best support and holistic education for each individual.
