Mark Amato

Mark Amato graduated from the University of Malta with a B. Ed. (Hons.) in 2006 and holds an M. Ed. (Melit.) in the Teaching of Ethics (2017). He has worked in the field of education for more than 20 years and has taught at both Primary and Secondary levels (including Middle School). In 2015, he was part of a team of 4 teachers who successfully piloted Malta's first state-school Ethics Education Programme.

Prior to his appointment as Director - National Student Wellbeing Services (NSWS), he also held the post of Deputy Head at a Vocational Secondary and Post-Secondary School (ALP), and of Education Officer (Accredited Programmes) within the Office of the Director General at the Ministry for Education, Youth, Research and Innovation (MEYR).

In 2021, Mark served as a consultant to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), acting as Ethics Advisor to both the Services and Technology Working Groups. He was also a member of the team drafting the document Achieving a Service of Excellence, A 5-YEAR STRATEGY FOR THE PUBLIC SERVICE.

Alongside his work in public service, Mark is a Visiting Lecturer and University Examiner within the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta. He also supervises and assesses student teachers during their teaching practice. His professional interests include student wellbeing and mental health, ethics education, curriculum design, inclusion and equity, early childhood education and care, alternative education, and lifelong learning.
